I've been trying (and failing) to do two things:

1. To create a little favourites list on the right above the recent articles lists etc.
2. How do I put a link into my text, but have it say the name of the person or topic it refers to, rather than just link?

I'm so confused.....

To create the favorites you go into your account and set that up. I'm not expert enough to give step by step, but it starts in the "my account screen". I would say that from there you simply follow the steps. I won't say it 'obvious' as I don't know your skill and experience level with computers and so won't insult you in that manner.

Links are created using html. When I want to use links in an article I usually write the article in an html editor and then paste it into the article. There are lots of good websites to learn some html basics.

I know this probably wasn't helpful enough, but perhaps one of the admins or more experienced JU users will add more clear instruction.

Dune,
Here is how you do both

1. Favourites list
- click on my account at top right
- at the top right of that screen you should see the My site section and one of the options should be 'Manage Site Custom Links' click the circle next to that and then go up and click edit
- on the new page scroll down and fill in the fields:
Section heading can either be your own words or you can select my links or links
fill in the title with whatever you want it to appear as
copy the url from the website you want to go to
and click 'add link'

A word of warning. Once you have added or edited links and then get out the 'Manage Site Custom Links' seems to disappear when you next go into my account. The only way I have worked out how to get it back is to log completely out of the site and then go back in.

2. Changing Link to something meaningful (this one is care of imajinit.)
- Add your link into your article and hit the submit article button
- When it finally adds it, edit the article and where the link is you should see something like:
Link

- change Link to whatever you like e.g.
whoisthisidiot

and re submit
- the new text you put in will appear as the link.

thats all I know, hope it helps

oops: in the above -
where Link is should be: href="http://gerry-attrick.joeuser.com/editpost.asp?AID=17437">Link
and where whoisthisidiot should be: href="http://gerry-attrick.joeuser.com/editpost.asp?AID=17437">whoisthisidiot

Also if you want to do pictures go to: Link
