An extended metaphor

This is what a boring afternoon at work produces:

I was standing in a que at Eurodisney and I started to absent mindedly fiddle with my belly-button. As I did so, I noticed a little piece of dry skin, so I scratched at it and it flaked off, but in itching it, I found that there was more hidden beneath. So I scratched some more and before I knew it I was utterly engrossed in ridding my navel of all the flakes that I found there.

I must have looked pretty daft standing there, in the que, staring at my navel... but I was completely absorbed in the task and it occured to me that I hadn't actually really given it much attention it in years. Jesus, I thought as I poked and prodded, how could I have forgotten to clean my belly button?

Quite a while later I was finally done and all of the dirt that had been slowly building up had been removed... but now my belly button was all red and it hurt like hell. But oh, it was worth it all for the joy of knowing that my belly button was fianlly clean!

Oh dear, I'm loosing my mind
